Japan Forum on IR Makes Recommendations for Reconciliation with China

The Policy Council of the Japan Forum on International Relations has published nine recommendations for improving relations with China in a statement signed by 78 members, principally prominent academics and former officials. The recommendations include the following: regular summit meetings; a continuous dialogue on key issues and at different levels; joint participation in regional cooperative arrangements, including proposals for an East Asian Community; support for Japanese companies with interests in China; resolution of the abandoned chemical weapons issue; enhanced educational exchanges; meetings of Chinese and Japanese opinion leaders; bilateral and multilateral joint history projects; and technical studies of East China Sea development. All of these recommendations are important proposals for reconciliation. This is a good opportunity for counterpart organizations in China now to publish their proposals, and begin to interact with the Japan Forum.
