Japan-China Joint History Project

The Japan Times reports that the offficially established Japan-China Joint Committee on History Studies, meeting for the second time on March 19-21, has "given up cowriting a single history of Sino-Japanese relations." Instead the Committee members (ten from China and ten from Japan) will write their own versions of the two countries' relationship, and then exchange comments if they disagree. The Committee first met in December 2006, and they aim to complete their work by June 2008. Yomiuri Shimbun of March 21 provides a somewhat more positive view of the meeting.
