In August 2006, the Department of International Relations at Australian National University will host a workshop on reconciliation between Japan and China. Preparatory to the organization of that workshop, we invite you to brainstorm the topic electronically through this blog. The purpose of this blog is to invite discussion and debate about the best ways to encourage reconciliation between China and Japan.

A Chinese Perspective on Relations with Japan
Zhao Dawei in "Bumpy Road Ahead," Beijing Review, December 7, 2006, surveys the Chinese relationship with Japan over the past year, focusing on the positive changes since Prime Minister Abe's October summit meeting with President Hu Jintao. Zhao analyses the problems in the relationship and identifies the specific steps that both governments have taken to move toward reconciliation.
